Barcharts
Learning Objectives:
- to learn how to produce barcharts from spreadsheet data
- to learn simple formatting of charts
Task 1: A quick barchart
- Load Excel and produce a spreadsheet with this data.
- Highlight the table including the headings and then click the Chart Wizard icon..

- Choose the column barchart and then click Next >.

- At each screen, provide the information asked for and then click Next > to move on. Type in titles and labels when asked.
- When you get to this screen....

....choose As new sheet and type in the name 'Cars Chart'. This will put the chart on a new worksheet, by itself.

You can switch between the new chart and the original table using the 'tabs' at the bottom of each worksheet.
- Save your spreadsheet and printout a copy of the chart for your folder. Write your name on the printout.
Task 2: Why stop at a barchart....any other charts?

- At this screen, you can choose a large number of different charts. Some are useful and some not. Produce some other types of charts.
- Save the spreadsheet with the new charts and then printout each new chart.
Task 3: Can we change the format of the charts?
- If you click on parts of the chart such as titles and labels and then click Format or right click and then select Format (chart item), you can change fonts, sizes, colours and other things.
- If you select the 'bars', for instance, on a barchart, you will be able to use colours, patterns and texture. Check them out!
- Save the spreadsheet with the new improved charts using a different name and then printout each new improved chart.
