Autosum

  1. Click into the cell immediately below the list of numbers to be added.

  2. Click the Autosum icon.

  3. Press [Enter] and the formula is entered automatically and your total should be shown.

Borders

  1. Highlight the cells to be formatted.

  2. Click Format then Cells.

  3. Select the Border tab (see picture).

  4. Select Style of line.

  5. Click the lines that you want in the Border window.  The situation shown in the screen shot will put a border around the outside and lines down the side of all of the columns. 

  6. Click OK.

  7. You may need to highlight part of your spreadsheet (eg the headings) only and do a similar process to put a line under the headings.

Formatting Text

  1. To format text, highlight it then access the text formatting in either of these ways.
  2. Use the icons at the top of the spreadsheet window to select a font, text colour or background

  1. Alternatively, click Format then Cells  and select the Font tab and then select your text formatting.

 

 

 

  1. Next select the Patterns tab and format the background.

Formatting Currency

  1. Highlight the numbers to be formatted.

  2. Click Format then Cells.

  3. Select the Number tab (see picture).

  4. Select Currency.

  5. If you don't want pence to show, change the number of decimal places to 0.

  6. Click OK.

Word Wrap

  1. Highlight the numbers to be formatted.

  2. Click Format then Cells.

  3. Select the Alignment tab (see picture).

  4. Put a tick next to Wrap text.

  5. If you want the text to appear at the top of the cell, select Top in the Vertical box.

  6. Click OK.
